Biblical Lesson: The Spiritual Importance of አስራት (Asrat)

God's Command Concerning the Tithe

አስራት (Asrat) is the tithe—one-tenth—and Scripture teaches that God's people are to set aside and bring the tithe to Him. It is not merely a human tradition or simply a personal way of expressing gratitude. It is rooted in God's command concerning the portion that belongs to Him.

1. Deuteronomy 14:22 (KJV): “Thou shalt truly tithe all the increase of thy seed, that the field bringeth forth year by year.” God commands His people to tithe from their increase.

2. Malachi 3:10 (KJV): “Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house...” God commands His people to bring the tithes into His house, providing for its needs and service.

3. Leviticus 27:30 (KJV): “And all the tithe of the land ... is the LORD's: it is holy unto the LORD.” The tithe is declared to belong to the Lord and to be holy unto Him.

4. Matthew 23:23 (KJV): “These ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone.” Our Lord Jesus Christ rebukes those who neglect justice, mercy, and faith while also affirming that the other duties should not be neglected.

Our Responsibility to God's House

The tithe supports the worship of God, the service of the clergy, the teaching of the faith, and the continuing spiritual and charitable work of the Church. Through faithful giving, the faithful participate in sustaining the house of God and its mission for present and future generations.

Members are encouraged to study these Scriptures, understand the spiritual responsibility of Asrat, and give faithfully according to the teaching of the Church.
